Auditions for entry are required for five out of the seven HYS regular season orchestras (String Orchestra Ensemble, Concert String Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Youth Symphony II, Youth Symphony I). No auditions are required for entry into the Beginning Strings or Preparatory Strings programs, the Summer Strings program or the Pacific Music Institute (PMI).

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PROGRAM AUDITIONS
Hawaii Youth Symphony auditions for its three symphony orchestras (Concert Orchestra, Youth Symphony I & II) are held during the first two weekends in June for the upcoming season which would begin in August. These blind auditions are held at the University of Hawaii Music School and are by appointment only.

Applications for each season are available and accepted after March 31. The application form is available for download here. Receipt of a fully completed application form and fee are required before an audition can be scheduled. The non-refundable application fee is $25 when received by the deadline. Late applications are accepted with a fee of $35. An additional $10 fee is charged for taped auditions.

String Program AUDITIONS
Auditions for the two top orchestras in our String Program (Concert String Orchestra and String Orchestra Ensemble) are held in late August at University of Hawaii Music Department and are by appointment only.

Applications for each season are available and accepted after July 15. The application form is available for download here. Receipt of a fully completed application form and fee are required before an audition can be scheduled. The non-refundable application fee is $10 when received by the deadline. Late applications are accepted with a $20 fee. Fees are waived for students who auditioned for the Symphony Orchestra Program.
