HYS accepts students through grade 12 only. There are certain age requirements for entrance into each of our programs. The table below outlines age eligibility. HYS does not make exceptions to age eligibility.

| Concert String Orchestra (CSO) | 8 years old before August 1st, and grade 3 |
| String Orchestra Ensemble (SOE) | 8 years old before August 1st, and grade 3 |
| Intermediate String Ensemble (ISE) | 8 years old before August 1st, and grade 3 |
| Beginning String Ensemble (BSE) | 8 years old before August 1st, and grade 3 |
| Boys & Girls Club Band (BGCB) | 10 – 18 years old |
| Music4Kids (M4K) |
7 – 9 years old (grade 2 – 5) |
