Pacific Music Institute (PMI)

WHAT IS PMI?

During the summer, HYS produces the Pacific Music Institute (PMI) is an intense program that strives for musical excellence. This concentrated study course focuses on five different student ensembles (jazz band, concert band, chamber music, string orchestra and symphony orchestra), each of which presents free concerts for the community at the end of the program. Students engage in theory and master classes in a musical setting not offered during the regular HYS season. This one-week music immersion program is open to local, mainland and international students in grades 8-12 who demonstrate a minimum level of musicianship and receive a teacher recommendation.

PMI holds classes at the UH Music Department, and concerts at the Pearl City Cultural Center.
