Summer programs

Summer Strings
HYS Academy offers a Summer Strings curriculum for beginning and intermediate string students. These five-week courses help students develop their skills in a smaller classroom setting that meets on a daily basis. The daily instruction helps students to develop more expediently than the regular season’s weekly rehearsals. These classes are also a good way to review or keep students playing regularly during the summer months. Click here for Summer Strings registration information.

Pacific music institute (PMI)
The Symphony Orchestra Program produces the Pacific Music Institute. Under the direction of Music Director Henry Miyamura, PMI is an intense program that strives for musical excellence. This one-week concentrated study course focuses on four student ensembles (jazz band, concert band, chamber music and symphonic orchestra). Students also participate in small instrument sectionals with skilled clinicians. Students featured in the ensembles engage in theory and master classes in a musical setting not offered during the regular HYS season. Free concerts for the community are presented at the end of the program. This one-week music immersion program is open to local, mainland and international students in grades 8-12 who demonstrate a minimum level of musicianship and receive a teacher recommendation.
