*Harp: For harpists auditioning for CO, YSII and/or YSI, the student will be required to play a solo of his/her choice, 3-5 minutes in length, demonstrating their best abilities as a player. The piece must be a solo or etude, and not an orchestral excerpt. The student will also be asked to play the excerpt, linked here, from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture.
Because we have so few harpists in our program, and the needs of our various orchestras changes by concert period, harpists will receive assignments throughout the season that best match individual ability level, and repertoire requirements.
YSI Strings: Please observe the following considerations when preparing the excerpts:
1) Perform the excerpts with the noted bowings to the best of your ability.
2) For divisi passages, please perform the top line.
3) When double stops occur, please perform them as such.
4) Students are allowed to use fingerings of their choice, even if there are noted fingerings in the parts.
