Super Strings at Le Jardin Academy – Summer 2022

Started in the summer of 2021, Super Strings at Le Jardin Academy is for students who are interested in learning to play the violin and experiencing the joy of music through the violin. Students will learn instrumental technique, rhythmic patterns, note reading skills, listening skills, concepts of musicality, basics of group playing, improvisation, and a variety of musical styles. In addition to the time spent in class, students are expected to practice at home daily for optimal progress. Super Strings consists of two classes: Beginning and Intermediate, and will be taught by violinist and HYS aluma, Ms. Laurie Shimabukuro. Students are also expected to bring their violin, music book, and a pencil to class.

Students must be able to attend the entire duration of the 5 week Super Strings Violin Class to participate. If you have known absences, please check with HYS at admin@hiyouthsymphony.org to get approval from the Super Strings teacher prior to registering.

For the safety of our students, staff and faculty, all students 12 & older will be required to have received the COVID-19 vaccine to participate in Super Strings. Spots are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and will be on a first come, first served basis.

This program is presented in partnership with Le Jardin Academy and the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. 

Important Dates:

• Early Registration and Financial Aid Deadline: Friday, May 13th. The Financial Aid deadline has been extended! Financial aid still available! 
  • Notification of Financial Aid Award: Tuesday, May 31st
  • Financial aid recipients applicants can be considered for the following type of assistance:  Tuition (up to 50% off) and/or Private Lessons.
• Late Registration: Friday, June 3rd

Class Information: June 13 – July 15 (M-F)

• Beginning Violin Class
  • NEW TIME: DAILY M-F, from 3:15 – 4:15 pm
  • Student ages 8+ & entering 3rd grade (must be born on or before 6/12/14)
  • No prior experience necessary
  • Instrument rental included
  • *Cost: $525.00
    • Financial Aid available (see information on registration form)
  • Location: Le Jardin Academy

• Intermediate Violin Class
  • NEW TIME: DAILY M-F, 4:30- 5:30 pm
  • Students ages 8+ & entering 3rd grade (must be born on or before 6/12/14)
  • At least 1 year of experience
  • Instrument rental included, if needed
  • *Cost: $525.00
    • Financial Aid available (see information on registration form)
  • Location: Le Jardin Academy

*Prior to the first rehearsal or class, fees are refundable less a $75 administration fee. Following the start of the first rehearsal or class, all fees are non-refundable.
