Solo & String Quartet Program


Session A: June 29 – July 5, 2019 (travel dates excluded)

For Violinists, Violists, and Cellists, ages 10-18

The Solo and String Quartet (SSQ) Program makes its return to PMI, offering dedicated students an emphasis on chamber music, private lessons and performance opportunities. Led by program director Ignace “Iggy” Jang, the students are encouraged to thrive under the guidance of an outstanding and inspiring faculty.

NEW for 2019, students may apply to:

  • Session A only: Solo & String Quartet, June 29 – July 5, 2019
  • Sessions A and B: SSQ and following Orchestra Programs (String Orchestra or OLA Symphony Orchestra). Session B runs July 6 – 14, 2019. Make sure to check out those wonderful programs!

Location:

PMI SSQ is set in one of the world’s most unique and inspiring setting, the island of Oahu, home of Honolulu. The capital is the State’s urban hub, rich in history and famous for its scenic beauty, from Waikiki to the North Shore’s Sunset Beach

Classes take place at the Music Department of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, with performances held at UH’s Orvis Auditorium.

Sample Schedule:

  • 9:00 am: Chamber Music Coaching, Private Lesson or Individual Practice
  • 10:45 am: String Ensemble, Chamber Music or Individual Practice
  • 12:00 pm: Lunch
  • 1:00 pm: Masterclass, Private Lesson or Technique Class
  • 2:15 pm: Chamber Music Coaching, Private Lesson or Individual Practice
  • 3:30 pm: Recreation
  • Evening: Free, Rehearsals or Performances

Please note: the PMI SSQ schedule will accommodate younger students as well as those attending summer school.

 

Tuition, Financial Aid, Housing and Application Instructions

PMI SSQ Tuition: $900. Kama’aina rates, scholarships and financial aid available. On-campus housing available for non-residents. For questions about Residential Life, please email both pmi@hiyouthsymphony.organd ignace@hiyouthsymphony.org.
