OLA Symphony Orchestra

The OLA Symphony Orchestra is the flagship ensemble within Hawaii Youth Symphony’s partnership with the National Orchestra Institute + Festival (NOI+F).

July 5 – July 12, 2020

The OLA Symphony Orchestra, the centerpiece of PMI, will be conducted by PMI Artistic Director Joe Stepec and NOI+F Director Richard Scerbo. The Symphony Orchestra is an advanced program for serious orchestral students.  
Symphony students will receive coaching from OLA Artist Faculty (sectionals, masterclasses, and a private lesson). Additional mentorship will be provided by OLA Teaching Fellows.
  • Ages 13-19
  • Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe/English Horn, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion
  • Audition Requirements:
    • Solo piece of choice
      • Wind/Brass and Percussion Only: An excerpt from a band piece can be played as an alternative instead of a solo piece. Suggested 1-2 minute length.
    • Required Symphony Orchestra Excerpt(s)

Sample Daily Schedule (subject to change):

2:45 – 3:45 pm –  Private Lessons as assigned
3:30 pm –  Check in
4:00 – 5:30 pm – Symphony Orchestra Full Rehearsal
5:45 – 7:15 pm -Symphony Orchestra Sectionals
